The page includes information on salary, the common backgrounds of private investigators, who investigators primarily work with, and each state’s requirements for licensure or registration. In addition, helpful lists like The Top 25 Private Investigator Training and Education Programs and Top Private Investigator Training Programs add information on higher education and private training for investigators.

“There’s really no set path that leads to a career in private investigation,” PInow co-founder Trent Carlyle explained. “Not everyone knows how to get started. Our goal with this resource is to provide comprehensive information that can help any individual understand what they need to do to get started as a private investigator.”

Though many individuals assume most private investigators work with individuals on cheating spouse investigations, many work with corporations, attorneys, and insurance firms. A survey conducted by PInow revealed that:

> 55% work with individuals
> 41% work with private companies
> 37% work with insurance firms
> 35% work with corporations
